Betty Jo Lowery Jeffreys, 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in Florence, Alabama.
Betty was born on December 23, 1940, in Leighton, Alabama, to Grace Helen Quinn Lowery and John Henry Lowery. A devoted Christian, she loved the Lord and her family deeply. Her faith was evident throughout her life in the love, kindness, and hospitality she extended to others.
Betty found great joy in teaching and devoted 35 years to educating generations of children as a sixth-grade teacher at Leighton Elementary School. She treasured her students and the opportunity to make a lasting difference in their lives.
A gracious and welcoming host, Betty loved entertaining and cooking for others. She especially enjoyed gatherings with her family and friends, all of whom she held dear. She had a gift for making everyone who entered her home feel welcome and loved.
Betty was a member of the Leighton Civic Club and a faithful member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. She served the Lord and her church family as the church organist, in the children’s ministry, and as a women’s Sunday School teacher.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Hillard Ray Jeffreys of Leighton; her parents, Grace Helen Quinn Lowery and John Henry Lowery; her brothers, Marlon Owen Lowery and Marvin Henry Lowery; and her sister, Patricia Ann Lowery, all of Leighton.
Betty is survived by her brother, Marion Edwin Lowery (Cynthia) of Tuscaloosa; four nieces, Mia Lowery Craft (Jeff) of Muscle Shoals, Grace Lowery Oakes of Leighton, TeLowa Lowery McCaghren (Mark) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Elizabeth Lowery Saffle (Ryan) of Brentwood, Tennessee; one nephew, John Harrison Lowery (Rebecca) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; four great-nephews, four great-nieces, and two great-great-nieces; her foster daughter, Saquanna Dawn Carrillo (Dan) of Hatley, Wisconsin; and many cherished family members and friends.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Valley Grove Baptist Church, 2040 Old Highway 20, Tuscumbia, Alabama. A celebration of Betty’s life will follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m., with burial afterward.
The family extends a special, heartfelt thank-you to Emma Thompson, Pearl Terry, Kay Luna, Patsy and Wendell Johnson, Diane and Ed Ford, Rusty Harper, Penny Townsend, Monica Jeffreys, Norma Hallmark, Denise Rutherford, Ms. Betty’s Sunday School class, Matt McClain of SouthernCare New Beacon, Clearview Cancer Institute, North Alabama Medical Center, and Florence Rehabilitation and Wellness Center for the kindness, care, and support they provided to Betty and her family.
Active Pallbearers will be Harrison Lowery, Jeff Craft, Rusty Harper, Mark McCaghen, Tyler McCaghen, Reaves Saffle, Ryan Saffle, Andrew Craft, and David Craft. Honorary pallbearers will be Kay Luna, Diann and Ed Ford, Patsy and Wendell Johnson, Emma Thompson, Pearl Terry, Brenda and Johnny Nixon, and the members of Mrs. Betty’s Sunday School Class- Valley Grove Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Valley Grove Baptist Church in Tuscumbia, Alabama.
Betty will be greatly missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know and love her.
