Juanita “Nita” Reid, age 72, passed away on August 22, 2026, at her residence.
Nita was born on July 1, 1954, to Clifford K. and Virginia Burney. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose generous and giving heart touched a number of lives.
Nita was always willing to help anyone and everyone in any way she could. She had a true passion for cooking and was known for preparing enough food to feed the whole neighborhood if she could. She also enjoyed sewing, working on projects around her home, and spending time playing cards with her family.
Above all, Nita loved the Lord with all her heart. From a very early age, God blessed her with a special gift for music. She loved playing the piano and used that gift, along with her beautiful singing voice, to glorify God and sing His praises. She was known for singing louder than anyone in the room. Her faith was an important part of who she was and how she lived her life.
Nita is survived by her loving husband, Johnnie Reid; her children, Eddie Reid, Reese Reid, Jay Reid (Madesta), and Sabrina Emerson (Seth); and her grandchildren, Josh Reid, Katlyne Golden, Tanya Gholston, Kristopher Reid (Kylee), Ashlie Thomas, Austin Reid, Nic Reid (Audriana), Corey Quick (Kaylee), Camden Reid (Abbey Grace Tomlin), Bryson Emerson, Jayden Reid, Alley Emerson, Andee Emerson, and Nathan Puckett.
She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren, three sisters, four brothers, and a host of other family members and a host of others who called her “Maw Maw.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford K. and Virginia Burney; four sisters; and two brothers.
Nita will be remembered for the meals she lovingly prepared, the music she shared, no one will ever forget her beautiful voice, the helping hand she was always willing to extend, and most of all, the love she gave so freely to her family and everyone around her. Her family will forever cherish the memories she created and the legacy of faith, generosity, and love she leaves behind.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by Alan Kuykendall, with Brian Wilbanks reading the obituary. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery, Falkville, Alabama.
Serving as pallbearers will be Nic Reid, Camden Reid, Bryson Emerson, Jayden Reid, Nathan Puckett, and Trent Hill.
Though Juanita will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that the faith she held so dearly throughout her life has now become sight, and the songs of praise she once sang here on earth continue in the presence of the Lord she loved so much.
