Nancy Irene (Bennett) Compton, 80, of Hartselle, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026. She was born on March 10, 1946, in Mobile, Alabama, to Garvin Louis Bennett and Augusta Ellen (Tyler) Bennett.
Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James “Jim” Robert Compton, who passed away on August 15, 2020; her parents, Garvin Louis Bennett and Augusta Ellen (Tyler) Bennett; her brothers, Chancy Louis Bennett and Johnny Bennett; and her sister, Sheila Bennett.
She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Ellen (Compton) Hembree [John Hembree], Philomena Compton, and Adrianne Marie Compton; her grandchildren, Perrin Denver Jones and Scarlett Blythe Jones; and her brother, James Ira Bennett. She also leaves behind beloved extended family and friends who will remember her with love and gratitude.
Nancy cared for others as a Registered Nurse, serving patients in the ICU and CCU at hospitals throughout Decatur, Athens, and Hartselle, Alabama. Her compassion, strength, and devotion to those in her care were hallmarks of her nursing career. She was a member of Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church, formerly St. Ann Catholic Church, for nearly 50 years. Her faith and prayers were an important part of her life, and she carried that devotion with her in all that she did.
Nancy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She cherished her family. She was known for her prayerful spirit and fun-loving nature. She enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. The memories she created with those she loved will remain a lasting part of her family’s lives.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle, Alabama. Following the service, Nancy’s cremains will be interred in the Columbarium at Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church. Peck Funeral Home is directing.
