Trudy Marie Spain, 88, of Decatur, AL passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, August 20, 2026. She was born on June 22, 1938 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 26th at 2:00 pm with a funeral mass following at 3:00 pm at Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church. She will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery.
Trudy is survived by her children, Maureen Spain, Mike Spain (Trudi), Dan Spain, Kathleen Borden (Shane) and 9 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, and her parents, Otto and Gertrude Helm.
Trudy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and child of God. She taught middle school English for many years, touching countless young lives. She also enjoyed cooking and entertaining as well as reading. After retiring, she volunteered at the library and added quilting to her hobbies, blessing many people with her beautiful creations. Trudy was a joy to be around as she lit up a room with her smiles and laughter.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wheeler Basin Regional Library or Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church Building Fund.
