Sharon Gale Shinholster Scogin, 71, passed away peacefully at her home in Killen, AL on August 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. The family will receive friends and family at Colbert Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a service celebrating Sharon’s Life to begin at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Harvey Cemetery in Rogersville, AL.
Sharon was many things to many people, a beloved mother, a treasured MiMi, a devoted sister, a caring nurse and a loyal friend. But above all, she was someone who made people feel loved, cared for, and important. As a nurse, Sharon dedicated her life to caring for others. Her compassion, strength, and gentle spirit touched countless lives. Caring for people came naturally to her and she brought the same love and devotion home to her family. Her greatest joy was being a mother and MiMi. She was the kind of mother and MiMi whose love could be felt in the smallest things, the hugs, the stories, the laughter, the encouragement, and the memories.
Sharon was preceded in death by her father Leavie Jefferson Shinholster, Jr.; mother, Vera Mae Booth Shinholster; and her former husband George Allan Scogin, Jr, with whom she shared 36 years of marriage.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory daughters, Selena Gurley (Tony), Killen, AL and Stephanie Markham (Todd), Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Kyle Gurley, Collin Gurley, Clay Gurley, Lawson Ledbetter, and Harper Ledbetter; brother, Richie Shinholster (Debbie) Booneville MS; nephews, James King (Stephanie), San Antonio, TX, John Shinholster, Tuscaloosa, AL; niece, Mollie Shinholster Luetze (Simon), Tuscaloosa, AL; many great-nephews and nieces. Special friends and family members Lisa Hall, Donna Phillips, Penny Logston and Micah Ledbetter.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Gurley, Collin Gurley, Clay Gurley, Lawson Ledbetter, John Shinholster, and Keinan Mendez. Honorary pallbearers will be the many nurses and doctors that had the privilege of working alongside Sharon.
