Kathy Suzanne Mitchell, of Decatur, Alabama, peacefully passed away on August 11, 2026 at DCH Regional Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.Kathy was born on January 4, 1958, to Thomas Edward Mitchell and Evelyn Joyce Turman Mitchell. She attended Decatur schools, playing the flute in the Decatur High School Band. She was baptized as a young teenager at the Austinville United Methodist Church where her family attended. Kathy graduated in 1976 from Decatur High School. She attended University of North Alabama, graduating in 1980 with a BA in Social work.
Kathy worked in social work for several years and transitioned to serve in Dugan’s Restaurant in Birmingham, Alabama as a General Manager. She later returned to Decatur serving at Libby’s Catfish Cabin. She loved serving people and taking care of others.
Kathy was an avid Alabama fan and was so excited to get her picture taken with Nick Sabin’s statue at the Bryant-Denny Stadium. She loved animals rescuing them from Decatur Animal Services.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, T.E. and Joyce Mitchell, her brothers, Thomas (Tommy) Mitchell and John Edward (Eddie) Mitchell, her nephew, Evan Mitchell.
Kathy is survived by her brother, Ronald (Ronnie) Mitchell and her sister, Nancy Mitchell, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will have a private service to be determined at a later date.
