Richard Allen Rogers, age 79, of Waynesboro, Tennessee, passed away Friday, August 14, 2026, at home, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.
Richard was born in Savanna, Illinois, to the late Bernard Rogers and Marjorie Eadie. As the oldest of four brothers, he developed early in life a strong sense of responsibility and a natural desire to look after those closest to him.
On February 8, 1969, Richard married the love of his life, Kathleen Taylor. Together, they built a life centered around hard work, family, and love, raising three children and creating a home filled with memories that would span more than five decades.
Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy, completing two tours of duty in Vietnam. During his military service, he worked as a construction superintendent, helping build bridges and bunkers. His service was an important part of his life and reflected the determination, discipline, and strong work ethic he carried with him throughout the years.
Richard’s love for God was deeply important to him and was reflected in the way he lived his life. He found genuine joy in doing things for others and was always willing to lend a hand when someone needed him. Providing stability and a better future for his family was one of the things that mattered most to Richard, and he worked tirelessly to accomplish it. With his strong Type-A personality and remarkable work ethic, he taught his children the importance of responsibility, dedication, and perseverance—lessons that will continue to live on through them.
Beyond his hardworking nature, Richard will be remembered for his sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh. His family especially cherished the love, laughter, and smiles he shared so freely. Whether he was spending time with his wife, enjoying his children and grandchildren, or simply making someone laugh, Richard had a way of turning ordinary moments into memories that will be treasured for years to come.
Richard enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He also treasured going to the movies and playing computer and card games with his family, enjoying the simple moments that brought everyone together.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Kathleen Rogers; one son, Matthew Rogers (Glenna) of Cleveland, Tennessee; and two daughters, Tracy Nicholl (Jeff) of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Angel Locke (Bryan Holzworth) of Waynesboro, Tennessee.
He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Kara Lokrantz (Chase), Callie Marlof (Jake), Caden Nicholl, Isaac Locke (Winter), Joel Locke (Kelcie), Michael Rogers, and Marc Rogers; four great-grandchildren; his siblings, Mark Rogers (Rae) and Kurt Rogers (Diana Witanski); and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by two brothers, Steven Rogers and Ronnie-Lee Rogers.
The family is honoring Richard’s wishes for cremation. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
Richard’s legacy will live on in the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, the stability he worked so hard to provide, and, most importantly, the love he gave so freely to his family. Though he will be deeply missed, the life he built and the love he shared will continue through the people he loved and the family he worked so hard to provide for.
