Joseph Mark Matthews, age 69, of Springfield, passed away, Thursday, August 6, 2026. Graveside services will be private and held at a later date.
Mr. Matthews was born July 19, 1957, in Nashville, to the late Billy and Becky Matthews. Mark was a 1975 graduate of Springfield High School. He was an employee of the City of Springfield for 47 years. Mark loved all animals, was a ham radio operator, played electric guitar, and used his green thumb to grow many trees and plants. He had a servants heart and a gentle spirit that he shared with the elderly, his family, and the animals he rescued. Mark loved to be at home and that is where he passed to his eternal home.
He is survived by his siblings, Lucy (Randy) Holt, Mike (Sherry) Matthews, and Sherrie (Neel) Smith; nieces and nephews, Amy Holt, Lesley Haun, Ashley Yoder, Blake Matthews, and Brant Smith; and great nieces and nephews, Evan Moncrief, Alex Mitchell, Britton Matthews, Everett Yoder, Garrett Smith and Taylor Smith.
