James Anthony “Tony” Bridges, 68, of Guntersville passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. Tony was born on September 17, 1957 in Huntsville, AL to James and Marie West Bridges. His family moved to the Douglas area in the mid 1970’s and he attended and graduated from Douglas High School in 1975. He met his beloved wife Elaine Atchley Bridges whom he married on September 4, 1976. They were blessed with 2 wonderful children in their marriage. He received salvation July 29, 1984 and has lived a faithful life for the Lord since that time attending Rocky Branch Holiness Church. He was a hard worker with a dedicated work ethic and devoted over 38 years to Cook’s Pest Control. He retired in 2016 and enjoyed traveling, camping, and spoiling his grandchildren who affectionately call him “Big”.
Tony is survived by his parents James & Linda Bridges, wife Elaine Atchley Bridges, son Michael Bridges (LeAnne), daughter Lindsay Bridges, grandsons Bryson Bridges (April), William Bridges (Jadyn), Montgomery James Friar Bridges; granddaughters Addison Melendez (Manuel), Ester Bridges; great-granddaughters Ava, Sadie, and Raelynn Bridges and Lucy Melendez. Brother, Ryan Bridges (Kristy) sister Amanda Lewis (Dean), brother-inlaw Keith Atchley, and sister-in-law Denise Weaver and a host of nephews, nieces, friends and church family.
He was preceded in death by his mother Edna Marie West Bridges, sister Melva Marie Bridges, grandparents Herman and Estelle West, Lafayette and Rosa Bridges, father and mother-in-law Rayburn and Mary Sue Atchley, brother-in-law Randy Weaver, and niece Kendra Atchley Shelton.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Rocky Branch Holiness Church. Mr. Bridges will lie in state on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. funeral service at Rocky Branch Holiness Church. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
