DECATUR — Decatur native and rising music artist Lamont Landers will return home to headline a free Independence Day concert during the 60th Annual Spirit of America Festival on Saturday, July 4, at Point Mallard Park.
Presented by North Alabama Pepsi, the Spirit of America Festival has been a cornerstone of Decatur’s Independence Day celebration since 1967. This year’s event marks the festival’s 60th anniversary and coincides with the nation’s 250th anniversary, bringing together a full day of family-friendly activities, athletic competitions, live entertainment, food, vendors, and fireworks.
Landers, whose soulful blend of rock, blues, and Americana has earned national attention, will take the main stage from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Decatur native, Landers has built a growing national following through appearances on major stages, including the Apollo Theater, and through his widely viewed performances online.
Opening the evening will be North Alabama favorites Bob & The Fog from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
“As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of Spirit of America alongside our nation’s 250th birthday, it’s especially meaningful to welcome a hometown talent like Lamont Landers back to headline one of Decatur’s most cherished traditions,” said Donna Whitten, president of Spirit of America Festival, Inc.
“For six decades, this festival has brought generations of families together to celebrate community, country, and the spirit that makes Decatur special. We’re excited to continue that tradition with a full day of family-friendly activities, great live music from Bob & The Fog and Lamont Landers, and a fireworks show that everyone can enjoy.”
The free concert is part of a full day of activities across Point Mallard. Morning events include the Stars & Sticks 2-Man Golf Classic, the SOA King & Queen of the Court Pickleball Tournament, the annual Kids Bike Parade, and a Car & Motorcycle Show.
Beginning at 4:00 p.m., festival attendees can enjoy food trucks, local vendors, and the Kids Zone before gathering for the evening concert series. The celebration concludes with a fireworks show over Point Mallard Park at 9:00 p.m.
Since its founding in 1967, Spirit of America has become one of North Alabama’s longest-running Independence Day traditions. Over the years, the festival has welcomed notable guests, including President Ronald Reagan, who addressed a crowd at Point Mallard Park during the 1984 festival.
The festival, live music performances, Kids Zone, and fireworks are all free to attend. Registration fees apply only to the Stars & Sticks 2-Man Golf Classic and the SOA King & Queen of the Court Pickleball Tournament, which serve as fundraising events benefiting Spirit of America Festival, Inc.
