Robert (Bob) Franklin Barger, 72, died Friday, May 29, 2026 at the Marshall Medical Center North in Arab, AL. He was born July 20,1953 at Travis AFB, California.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Noah and Cora Barger and Robert and Georgiana Rice and his parents, Frank and Betty Barger.
Survived by his wife, Judy, of 23 years, son, Frank Barger; stepdaughter, Stephanie Shaw; stepson, Brian West; sister, Fran Bauer; 4 sisters in law; 3 brothers in law; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews & cousins.
Bob graduated from Edmunds High School, Sumter SC and later completed an Associates Degree with Magna Cum Laude honors in Applied Science in Missile and Munitions Technology at John C. Calhoun State Community College.
Bob joined the army in 1972 and retired in 2013 achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 as a nuclear weapons technician. He also worked in civil service as an instructor at the US Army ordinance missile and munitions center and school at Redstone Arsenal. While in the Army, Bob was awarded many certificates for exceptional & outstanding performance, as well as the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.
He was a member of Gilliam Springs Baptist Church where he served on the security team. He also loved and enjoyed his involvement with the men’s/workers of love ministries.
On Friday, June 5, 2026 the family will receive friends from 1:30-2:45 at the Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel followed by the funeral service at 3:00. A full military honors graveside burial at Gilliam Springs Baptist Church Cemetery will immediately follow.
Pallbearers are: Grant Barger, Brian West, Hunter Allred, Josh Maness, Ryan Bauer, and Jason
Bauer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gilliam Springs Baptist Church’s missions ministry, 1351 US-231 S, Arab, AL 35016.
