James Coy Sanderson's obituary picture James “Coy” Sanderson
Born to Joe & Nola Sanderson September 8, 1942 of Hamilton passed away on October 3,2026 (Nola Sanderson’s Birthday). He went home to celebrate with her.
A man of unmatched kindness, boundless love, and a irrepressible spirit for adventure, our beloved father passed away peacefully at his home in Hamilton, AL, surrounded by his daughter (Sonya Sanderson) and his niece (Tammy Posey). He leaves behind a legacy defined by hard work, fierce devotion to family, and a lifelong thrill for the open path where the faster he went, the better!
Raised with a strong work ethic from his early days, he worked in the fields as a young boy and naturally stepped into the role of protector and caretaker for his younger siblings. That deep sense of responsibility and love for family became the anchor of his life. By day he was a Master Contractor who could build, fix, and repair anything. But by night- and on the weekends- he loved life with the fearlessness and heart of Evel Knievel.
An avid outdoors man, he lived for the freedom of riding four-wheelers, hunting, fishing, and racing cars. He wasn’t just a rider he was one of the leaders of the Hamilton 4-wheeling crew- he dedicated time to clean paths and kill snakes that dared to cross their paths so all could ride safer. His passion for speed never waned- he continued racing cars right up to his 80th birthday in 2022 living every moment at full throttle. Beyond his thrilling adventures and incredible handywork, he was above all, a deeply loving, kind, and caring father, brother, and uncle. He was blessed with an extraordinary family and strong support system of friends -Mac, Joanna, and Carolynn- to mention a few.
Through his absence he leaves a void that can never be filled, his spirit will live on the trails he blazed with his brother (Jimmy Wanye) and numerous other family and friends, the homes he built, and the endless memories of laughter, speed, and devotion he shared with us all.
He is survived by Daughter: Sonya Sanderson (Kristen), Son: James Coy Sanderson Jr “Jamie” and first wife Patricia Sanderson “Sue”, Brothers: Edward, Harold, and Donald Sanderson, Sister: Helen Williams and sister-in-law: Robin Sanderson. Numerous nieces and great nieces- to name a few who spent countless hours with him riding on 4-wheelers or sharing a meal, Tammy Posey, Shawn McCarley, Danille Hayes, Crystal (Kurt Clayton), Patty Williams, Pam Harper, Jade Allen, Cayla Zarves, and Nephew: Shawn (Kelly Robertson) and Two Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joe & Nola Sanderson, Four Brothers and Five Sisters.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 18, 2026 2:00 until memorial service time at 3:00 at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel. Followed by a graveside all the 4-wheeler family is requested to do a final ride honoring Coy after the memorial service. If there is any questions you may text his daughter Sonya at 615-294-8742
