Virginia Lee Winborn, 86, of Prospect, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in Petersburg, Tennessee. Virginia was born on Friday, March 29, 1940, in Fisher, Arkansas to Byram Fredrick Costley and Zana Lavale Watson Costley. She lived most of her life in northern Alabama and Southern Tennessee areas where she dedicated 33 years to the field of nursing.
A woman of profound devotion, as a member of Bradshaw Baptist Church in Pulaski, Tennessee. Virginia loved God with all of her heart, and that love extended to everyone she met. Her life was defined by her generous spirit, most notably through her dedicated work sewing for a foundation supporting needy children in Honduras. Her hands were always busy serving others, creating a lasting impact on lives near and far.
Virginia found immense joy in the simple beauties of life. She was an avid gardener who could make anything bloom, a talented painter who captured the world’s vibrant colors, and a gifted seamstress. She was like a second mother to her youngest brother, Wallace. She cherished her daily comfort of enjoying her morning cup of coffee alongside her beloved brother Wayne.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Rufus Winborn, both of her parents, one daughter; Linda Gail Johnson, one son-in-law; Bill Murray, one brother-in-law; Bud Hill.
Virginia is survived by two sons: Douglas (Bobbie) Winborn of Petersburg, Tennessee, Michael Winborn of Crawfordville, Florida, four daughters: Alice (Bill) Cooper of Madison, Alabama, Tonya Ariaga of Pulaski, Tennessee, Suzanne Stafford (Karl Knox) of Pulaski, Tennessee, Sharon Murray (Mario Rodriquez) of Huntsville, Alabama, two brothers: Wayne (Christa) Costley of Ardmore, Tennessee, Wallace (Vickie) Costley of Elora, Tennessee, one sister; Linda Hill of Petersburg, Tennessee, fourteen grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, a couple of great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, a childhood friend; Zannie Mae Smith, special friend; Chareese Basila, and a family friend; John King.

A visitation will be held at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in Ardmore, Alabama on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A chapel service will follow directly after visitation at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Gatlin Cemetery located in Ardmore, Alabama with grandson, Justin Stafford officiating the services.
Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home will be assisting the family with services.
