Jo Muril “Jody” Brooks, 94 of Union Grove passed away Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Marshall Manor Nursing Home. She was born May 20, 1932, in Morgan County to Samuel H. Hyatt and Ida Mae Abercrombie Hyatt. On November 4, 1949, she married Lloyd E. “Cotton” Brooks; they shared 42 years of marriage before his passing on May 30, 1992. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and later attended Highland Baptist Church until declining health prevented her from doing so.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Wheeler; son, Edwin Brooks (Vickie); daughter-in-law, Lorene Brooks; grandchildren, Keith Brooks (Samantha), Shane Brooks, Cody Wheeler (Kelly) and Cory Wheeler (Ally); great grandchildren, Trent, Layney, Wyatt, Brody, Nova, Sam, Noah and Waylon; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cotton Brooks; son, Billy Ray Brooks; sisters, Velma Whisenant, Arvizenia Briscoe and Isileen Kinney; brothers, Herbert Hyatt, Warren Thanual Hyatt, Arney Hyatt and Dewitt “Dee” Hyatt.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Gober Funeral Chapel with Michael King and Cody Wheeler officiating. The burial will be in Arab Memorial Cemetery, Gober Funeral Chapel directing.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Gober Funeral Chapel.
Pallbearers: Keith Brooks, Shane Brooks, Trent Brooks, Cody Wheeler, Cory Wheeler and Scottie Ditto. Honorary Pallbearers: Layney, Wyatt, Brody, Nova, Sam, Noah and Waylon.
