Charles Douglas Dollar – Obituary

Charles Douglas Dollar, age 74 of Athens, AL passed away at his home on Sunday, August 13, 2017. Charles was born on July 5, 1943 in Muscle Shoals, AL to Elbert and Pauline Dollar.

Charles is predeceased by his son, Bart Dollar; brothers, Richard Dollar, Lewis Dollar, William Dollar, Maurice Dollar; sisters, Jewell Dollar and Paula Beth Dollar.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Dollar of Athens; son Blake Dollar and wife Kristy of Athens; two grandchildren, Jackson Dollar and Kennedy Dollar of Athens; brother Everett Dollar of Fultondale, AL.

Charles was a member of Sardis Springs Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of Woodman of the World and Tide Pride for a number of years. Charles coached baseball, basketball and youth at East Limestone summer league. He assisted with East Limestone Soccer. Charles worked for Lynn Layton since 1988. He was a dedicated worker and employee.

Charles was a 1961 graduate of Athens High School where played basketball and football. He loved hunting and fishing and his dog Annabelle.

The service for Charles will be held at Sardis Springs Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 5:00PM with Bro. Tim Keenum officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-4:45 PM at the church. Burial will take place in Roselawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Stanley Menefee, Heath Dollar, Stan Menefee, Joe Dollar, Ken Ricketts, Bobby Turpin, Jerry Newby and Jarad Dorne’. Honorary pallbearers are the Sardis Springs Baptist Church Deacons, Lynn Layton, Morris Bates, Ted Towery and Eddie Davis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sardis Springs Baptist Church Building Fund or Youth program.
