Nell Shelton Jones, age 100, went to her heavenly reward on Monday, September 30, 2019 at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice.
Nell, a life long resident of Arab was born on November 18, 1918 to John and Maude Fant Shelton. In 1940 she married the late Marshall Jones an Army Air Corps veteran, who passed in 1981. She was an Auburn University class of 1938 graduate earning a Bachelor’s degree in education. During WWII she was employed by the Defense Department at Redstone Arsenal. Throughout her teaching career she was employed at various schools, including Arab High School. She retired from Marshall Technical School in 1975.
She was a member of Rock Primitive Baptist Church.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her two nephews, John Boys (Peggy Jane), Jim Blake (Faye); twp great nieces, Marsha Nell Owen (Ted), Wendy Carria (Mark Crawford) and their families. Preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Jones; parents, John and Maude Shelton; sister, Hazel Boys (Ewell).
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with Matt Jordan, officiating. Burial will be in the Arab Memorial Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.
Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2019 Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel.
