Wynell Griffin Whitehead, 93, of Anderson, died early Monday morning at her residence.
Mrs. Whitehead was born on August 30, 1932, outside of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. She was a devoted member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Rogersville and a charter member of their Fooks Sunday School class. She was active in CPWM ministries and sang in the church choir. She married the love of her life, James Bruce Whitehead on June 2, 1952, and together raised two amazing daughters, Karen and Kathy. Wynell and Bruce celebrated 63 years of marriage together before his passing in 2015.
Wynell loved sewing and creating crafts for the church bazaar. She helped instill a love of music in her daughters, faithfully taking them to lessons throughout their youth. She was a proud supporter of her grandchildren’s sporting and music events. She enjoyed taking trips with her husband and her family while creating lasting memories together.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Leathel Griffin, and her husband, James Bruce Whitehead. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Cantrell and husband, Billy Ray, and Kathy Ezell; granddaughters, Kerri McKelvey and husband, Kenny, and Erin Cantrell; great-grandchildren, Zara, Xanthe, Rigel, and Quinlan McKelvey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Larry Snoddy, Danny Springer, Kenny McKelvey, Mark Butler, Chris Sims, David Barr, Christine Driskell, and Jesse Thompson.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Danny McFall, Dr. Jorge Rodriguez, and Hospice of North Alabama, as well as nurses Tara and Daniel for their compassionate care. They would also like to give special thanks to their First CP Church family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First CP Church Relay for Life team or the First CP Church Missions fund.
