William C. Spurlin, age 91, passed away on April 16, 2025 at The Retreat, Hospice by Saad in Mobile, Al. He was born May 28, 1933 in Pike County, Al. He was married to his dear wife Katie, for almost 72 years. He worked as an accountant for most of his professional career. He was a graduate of Auburn University and served in the US Army. He served as a deacon in the Baptist Church. William was a strong family man who encouraged and was proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and Katie lived in Scottsboro, Al. for 50 years before health concerns led them to assisted living in Pensacola, Fl. and Daphne, Al.
William is survived by his wife, Kate Pitts Spurlin, daughter Ivan Whatley and husband Jack, son Cliff Spurlin and wife Mona, grandson Justin Roberts and wife Connie, granddaughter Renee` Spurlin Kornegay and husband Jason, great grandchildren Ethan Roberts, Ayden Roberts, Stella Kornegay and Emmelyn Roberts, brother Butch Spurlin and wife Gayle and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents William S. Spurlin and Bess Shirley Capps, his sister Shirley Sherrer and grandson Ian Roberts. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Pine Haven Memorial Gardens arranged by Rudder Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Shiloh Baptist Church, Scottsboro, AL in memory of Ian Roberts.
