Virginia Ann Fitzgerald White – Obituary

Graveside service for Virginia Ann Fitzgerald White, 79, of Hartselle will be Tuesday, August 28th, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Herring Cemetery in Massey, Alabama with Rev. Howard Rogers and Bro. Sam Gugliotta officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.  Visitation will be Monday, August 27th, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home.

Mrs. White died Tuesday, August 21st, 2018 at her residence. She was born August 28th, 1938 in Cullman County to Ralph Gordon Fitzgerald and Mary Alice King Fitzgerald.

She received her Masters Degree in August of 1967 from Florence State University in Secondary Education.  She taught English at Tuscaloosa High School and Northport High School.  She taught 7th and 8th grade English on the USAF bases of Wake Island and Panama Canal. In her spare time, she was also a Librarian at the schools.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and First Presbyterian Church of Hartselle. Mrs. White had a great alto voice and sang in a Quartet in her Hartselle Church.  She loved music, played the piano and the ukulele. Mrs. White was the choir director for her church in Panama, Wake Island and Bethel Presbyterian Church in Northport.

She loved sports, especially the Atlanta Braves, and was an avid Alabama Fan of any of the team sports, ….ROLL TIDE….. She loved flowers and working in her flowers beds.

Before their son, Ricky, was born Virginia Ann and Richard lived in Japan and traveled throughout the country. She loved seeing all the beautiful countryside, homes and enjoyed eating the Japanese foods.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Richard J. White, their only child: Richard (Ricky) Fitzgerald White, her parents: Ralph and Alice Fitzgerald, her sister: Sandra Kay Fitzgerald Pickens, a brother-in-law: Bob Pickens, two nephews: Paul Allen and John David (J.D.) Pickens.

Survivors include: her sister: Danni Francis Fitzgerald, of Hartselle, two nieces: Natasha Marie Smith (James) of Eastman, GA, DeeDee Jones (Randy) of Oxford, MS, a great niece: Jenna Ursic of St. Augustine, FL, two great nephews: Drew Ursic of Oxford, MS and JaQuavius Smith of Dublin, GA, and a host of cousins.

Pallbearers will be Jim Stephenson, Roger King, Mack Fitzgerald, Ronald Fiitzgerald, Karl Bartholomew and Jeff Lowry.

In lieu of flowers: make donations to Raleigh’s Place in Clanton, Alabama and First Presbyterian Church of Hartselle,

A “special thank you” to the hospice nurses: Amanda Stewart, Paul Barrier, Anna Halbrooks Dove, and Stephanie Russell, and  her caregivers: Carolyn England, Legetia King, Kemauri Baker, Lisa Edwards and Christy Allen.
