Violet Marie Kelley Mahan, 82, of Sims Community in Guntersville, Alabama, peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior after a life devoted to faith, family, and music.
Born on October 26, 1943, Violet lived most of her life in Sims Community, where she became known for her unwavering faith, kind heart, and extraordinary musical talent. At the young age of eight, she received God’s blessing with the gift of playing the piano by ear—a gift she faithfully dedicated to His service throughout her life.
Violet was a lifelong member of Welcome Bethel Church in Guntersville, Alabama. She faithfully served as the church pianist for many years, ministering through music until declining health and Dementia no longer allowed her to attend. Her love for the Lord was evident each time her hands touched the piano keys.
Together with her beloved brother, Freeman Kelley, Violet traveled throughout North Alabama, playing the piano and singing at hundreds of funerals, revivals, worship services, and special events. Through every song, she sought to glorify God and encourage others. Her music was more than a talent—it was a ministry that touched countless lives and left an enduring legacy of faith.
Above all, Violet treasured her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose gentle spirit, steadfast faith, and unconditional love will be remembered by all who knew her. She especially cherished the time she spent with her “one and only” granddaughter, Grace. In later years, Violet took great pride and joy in listening to Grace sing, and she found immense happiness whenever she had the opportunity to accompany her on the piano.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Angela Mahan Williams (Tim); her cherished granddaughter, Grace Elise Williams; her beloved brother, Freeman Kelley (Pat); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who were a special blessing throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Neal “Butch” Mahan; her father, Boyd Kelley; her mother, Josie Windsor Kelley; her brothers, Robert Kelley, Beamon Kelley, and Franklin Kelley; her sister, Polly Jolley; and her dearly loved nephew, Johnny Kelley.
Violet’s greatest joy was serving her Savior. Whether through the music she played, the songs she sang, or the quiet way she lived her faith each day, she pointed others to Jesus Christ. Her legacy of love, worship, and unwavering devotion to God will continue to inspire her family, church, and all whose lives she touched.
Visitation will be held on June 29, receiving Family at 4:00 and Friends from 4:30 – 7:00, at Adam’s Brown Funeral Home, in Albertville, Alabama. On June 30, she will lie in state at Welcome Bethel Church, in Guntersville, Alabama, from 1:00 – 2:00, with the funeral service beginning at 2:00. She will be laid to rest at Pleasant Hill #2 Baptist Church Cemetery following the service.
