Thurman Ray Kimbrough, age 84, of Tuscumbia, Alabama, passed away at home on December 14,2016. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 16th, at the Red Rock Church of Christ. The funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church with David Conley officiating. Burial will be at the Barton Cemetery in Barton, Alabama.
Thurman was a lifelong resident of the Red Rock Community and a very faithful member of the Red Rock Church of Christ. He worked 25 years at Ford Motor Company in Sheffield and 14 additional years at General Motors in Decatur. He enjoyed helping people and served as a member of the Colbert County Board of Education for 18 years.
Thurman loved his family and thought his wife was the most beautiful woman God ever created. He truly believed his children could achieve anything they were willing to work hard to accomplish and made each of them believe it as well. He was a good neighbor and friend to all, quick to introduce himself with a firm handshake and a smile. Thurman was a man of true honor and integrity.
After retiring, he devoted most of his time to growing a large garden. He loved the smell of the earth turning over and farmed for many years. People near and far enjoyed his delicious tomatoes.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nettie Logan Kimbrough; five children; Jenine Garland (Nick); Teresa Harrison (Steve); Joel Kimbrough (Melissa); Mark Kimbrough (Kay); Jill Jones (Kenny); sisters Edith Friend and Geraldine Howard, and brother, Gerald Kimbrough. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Lucille Kimbrough; granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Harrison, and siblings, Frances Jones, Maxine Lovelace, J. C. Kimbrough, Johnny Kimbrough, Bill Kimbrough, and Sonny Kimbrough.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Kimbrough, Logan Kimbrough, Matthew Harrison, Joshua Garland, Darryl Rutland, and Scott Lovelace.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Andre Taylor, Ms. Sarah Wilkerson, and Gentiva Home Healthcare staff for the wonderful care given to our loved one during his sickness.
