March 13, 1950 – April 20, 2025
With deep sorrow and immense love, we announce the passing of Spencer Ray Wells, Sr., 75, of Decatur, Alabama, who departed this life peacefully on April 20, 2025, shortly after celebrating 54 beautiful years of marriage to Michele, the love of his life.
A devoted husband, cherished father, beloved grandfather, faithful son, and loyal brother, Spencer was the steady rock of our family—a man of quiet strength, unwavering devotion, and a heart that gave endlessly.
Spencer will be remembered most for his brilliant mind, his natural gift for solving problems, his sharp wit, and the collection of silly sayings that will continue to echo in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service, and was admired by all who had the honor of knowing him.
He was the best kind of husband—steadfast, caring, and true. For more than five decades, he loved with loyalty and gentleness that formed the foundation of our home. As a father, he led by example, offering wisdom, patience, and unconditional love. His grandchildren brought him deep joy, and he celebrated their lives and accomplishments with genuine pride.
Spencer is survived by his loving wife, Michele Wells; his sons, Spencer R. Wells Jr. (Spike) and his wife Grandison, and Steven Wells; his grandchildren, Hazel, Sam, and Hattie Wells, and Matthew, Camilla, and Hayes Burnside; and his sister, Jennifer Hester and her family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Irene Wells.
Spencer lived a private life, and in keeping with his wishes, funeral services will be held privately with close family.
His legacy of love, laughter, integrity, and enduring wisdom will remain with all who knew him. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing his was a life well lived—and deeply loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in his honor to the Decatur Neighborhood Christian Center.
We will carry him with us always—his love, his laughter, and the light he brought to our lives.
