THE SHOALS-Greetings from the Republican Club! Football season kicks off this Saturday for all you armchair quarterbacks and couch coaches! But before your team kicks off, I invite you to kick off Constitution month (Constitution Day is September 17) at the Shoals Republican Club’s monthly breakfast.
On Saturday morning, September 3 at 8:00am, at the Helen Keller Library, you’ll get the opportunity to be an armchair barrister as we have assembled the first-of-its-kind judicial panel to discuss the major cases of the past session of the US Supreme Court with three well-respected jurists: Richard Minor and Chris McCool from the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals, and Matt Fridy, from the Court of Civil Appeals – all first teamers!
Know before you go! Do your homework! Bring your pocket Constitution. The following cases will be reviewed:
West Virginia v. EPA
If you are a student of Constitutional history (who isn’t?), here is another homework assignment from CSPAN’s Landmark Cases series:
And, don’t forget that the Supreme Court kicks off its season on the first Monday of October.

I encourage you to attend the Constitution Day Dinner, the only-one-of-its-kind in the country, sponsored by the Colbert County Republican Executive Committee, featuring Attorney General Steve Marshall as the keynote speaker. This special event will be held on Thursday, September 15, at 5:30pm, at the Locust Hill historic home, located at 209 South Cave Street, in Tuscumbia. Tickets are $25. For more information, please contact Phil Green, Chairman of the CCREC: 256-762-4072 / colbertgopchair@pm.me.

Please share these invitations with your family and friends – always reach and teach. And, invite your children and other young people to attend – they are our posterity.
