DECATUR-The Decatur Police Department report that the second suspect wanted in the murder that took place on August 26 has been arrested
8/30 UPDATE: On August 26, 2022, officers with the Decatur Police Department were dispatched to 1220 2nd Avenue SW in reference to a deceased male, whose body had been partially concealed next to a dumpster.
The Criminal Investigation Division was notified and responded to the scene to begin an investigation. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the victim, identified as Daniel Abbate, 20, of Jasper, had been shot. Detectives with the Decatur Police Department worked through the weekend and were able to determine that two individuals were responsible for Abbate’s death.
On August 29, 2022, a 17-year-old male was placed under arrest and charged with Capital Murder. At this time, due to the juvenile’s age, his name or photo will not be released per state law.
On August 30, 2022, the second suspect, identified as Justin Da Shawn Fuqua, 18, of Decatur, turned himself into the Decatur Police Department. Fuqua was charged with Capital Murder and booked into the Morgan County Jail.
Detective Ferizovic with the Violent Crimes Unit met with Morgan County Circuit Judge Stephen Brown who set no bond for both individuals.
“The above listed defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.”
