Samuel Errett Nunn, born January 4, 1934, a man of deep faith, service, and family, passed away peacefully at home surrounded -by his family on April 8, 2026. Born in Akron, Ohio, to Henry G. and Maude Fitzgerald Nunn, -Sam moved to Hartselle, AL, where he was reared by his grandparents, Erin and Errett Fitzgerald.

Sam was a proud graduate, of the Morgan County High School Class of 1952, having previously attended Burleson Grade School. His commitment to his country led him to join the Air Force in 1954, where he served with distinction for two decades, eventually retiring as a Master Sergeant (MSGT) in 1974.

Following his military service, Sam began a long career with Chrysler Corporation, working from 1974 until his retirement in 1992. Even in retirement, his entrepreneurial spirit shone through as the Owner of Willie Burgers, a local favorite.

Sam’s legacy is physically etched into the landscape of Hartselle, where he was instrumental in building Holy Family Catholic Church, a testament to his enduring faith and devotion to his community.

Sam’s greatest pride was his large and loving family. He is survived by:  His wife: Phyllis Nunn, his four children: Kenneth (Tammy) Nunn; Debra Nunn (Butch) Hannan, Celeste Nunn (Brad) Smith, and Annette Nunn (Alan) Mitchell. His eight grandchildren: Kristen Smith (Greg) Danforth, Torey Nunn, Hunter (Ali) Smith, Trevor Hannan, Alex Smith, Dylan Hannan, Aingealina Nunn, and Noah Hannan. His six great-grandchildren: Nathan Langley, Ross Smith, Naomi Hawkins, Silas Smith, Stephen Smith, and Gabriella Potter. His great-great-grandchild: Lucas Danforth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Ruth Gay and Laverne Stacks, and his granddaughter, Anita Nunn.

Pallbearers will be Alan Mitchell, Brad Smith, Butch Hannan, Trevor Hannan, Hunter Smith, and Kenny Nunn.

Silvio Bohusvenicy, Dylan Hannan, Noah Hannan, Ross Smith, Nathan Langley, and Greg Danforth will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, family requests please make memorial donations to Hospice of North Alabama.
