Ronnie Willard Sammons
November 21, 1947 – April 15, 2025
Ronnie Willard Sammons, 77 years old, of Union Grove, Alabama, passed away Tuesday morning, April 15, 2025, at his home.
Mr. Sammons is survived by his son, Ronald Barry Sammons, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; his daughter, Melissa Sue Sammons-Gudis, of Union Grove; his sons-in-law Steve Gudis and Jesus Villeda; his brothers, Roger and Scotty Sammons; and his sister-in-law Janell Sammons.
He was born on November 21, 1947, at East End Memorial Hospital in Birmingham to his parents, Virginia Earl Strickland, and Wilburn Cecil Sammons. Mr. Sammons was the oldest of five brothers and graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School in Birmingham in 1967. On December 4, 1967, he entered the United States Army, where he served two tours in Vietnam, retiring from the military in 1988 with the rank of Master Sergeant. Mr. Sammons continued to work for the military as a civilian until his retirement in 2008.
Mr. Sammons is preceded in death by his parents; his paternal grandparents, George Washington Sammons and Lula Bell Martin; his maternal grandparents, Oscar and Mary Strickland; his brothers Barry and Ricky; and his wife Suzanne Bowden McBee.
He and Suzanne married on August 12, 1969, in Georgia, and were married for 48 years until her death on October 1, 2017. The family lived in Fort Rucker, Alabama; Frankfurt, Germany; and St. Louis, Missouri, before relocating to the Union Grove, Alabama area in 1997.
Mr. and Mrs. Sammons were active with Mount Olive Baptist Church in Morgan City, and in their spare time enjoyed their beloved dogs, cars, travel, the outdoors, gardening, and Alabama Crimson Tide and Missouri Tigers football.
Funeral services with military honors will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church #2, with Brother Bryan C. Mosley, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.
Visitation for Mr. Sammons will take place at 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Brindlee Mountain Chapel Funeral Home in Morgan City. He will also lie in state at the church from 1 – 2 p.m. prior to the service.
