Rita Wilson, 78, passed away peacefully on June 15th at her residence, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on October 11, 1947, in Morgan County, Rita lived a life marked by faith, kindness, humility, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her faith guided every aspect of her life and carried her through both joys and hardships with remarkable strength and grace. Those who knew her will remember her gentle spirit, selfless heart, and determination in the face of life’s challenges.
A funeral service will be held at Enon Baptist Church on Thursday, June 18th. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. There will be no graveside service.
Rita graduated as the valedictorian of Speake High School and briefly attended Calhoun Community College. She earned her Dental Hygiene License and began her career working for Dr. John Keahey. Later, she worked for Dr. R.C. Bedingfield and Dr. Ronnie McCaghren before retiring several years ago.
More than any accomplishment, Rita treasured her family. She was the kind of person who always put others before herself, offering encouragement, comfort, and love to everyone fortunate enough to know her. She found her greatest joy in spending time with those she loved and creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Her legacy will continue on through the countless lives she touched with her compassion, wisdom, and example.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie “Bud” and Mildred Keenum; her son, Brent Carlton Wilson; her brother, Roger Keenum; and her sister, Dianne Gillespie.
She is survived by her loving husband, Johnny Wilson; her children, Marla Odom (Shane) and Cindy Cole (Nicholas); her grandchildren, Jolee Fortenberry (Connor), Wren Cole, Maci Cannon (Will), and Ty Odom; her great-grandchildren, Oaklynn Cole, Colt Fortenberry, and Wrenleigh Fortenberry; her sister, Carolyn Balch; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
