Richard (Dick) H. Franklin, age 87 of Huntsville, Alabama, passed on August 11, 2021. Mr. Franklin was born on March 13, 1934 in Hazel, South Dakota and was raised in Watertown, South Dakota. He was a long-time resident of Fond du Lac, WI with his family, and spent later years in Maryland, Tennessee and Alabama.
Mr. Franklin’s faith and Christian ministry led to a master’s degree in social work. He served key roles in the Wisconsin Department of Corrections over many years, and became Director of Institutions in Alaska. He closed out his career with the Federal Division of Corrections based in the Washington DC area.
He enjoyed sharing his curiosity and love for the outdoors, the arts, photography, fishing, gardening, handiwork and dry humor with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert H. & Irene Harris Franklin, sister Donna Stanislaus, brother Dale Franklin, and nephew Doug Stanislaus. He is survived by his brother Bill and wife Beth Franklin (Longview, TX) and his children; Rick Franklin (Milwaukee), Rhonda M. Lynn (Huntsville, AL) and Randy Franklin (Anchorage, AK) who gave him seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
