Richard Bearden, age 74 of Goodwater, passed away May 21 at his residence. Born in Alexander City, Alabama, he was the son of Daniel and Margaret Bearden. After leaving high school, he immediately entered the workforce, establishing a lifelong reputation as a leader and an incredibly hardworking man. Throughout his career, he lent his talents to several local companies, working at Russell Manufacturing, Frontier Yarns, and Trutzschler textile manufacturing. He also worked as a welder at Graves Fabricating and spent time doing body work at A.J.’s.
A massive car enthusiast, he possessed a rare mechanics’ gift; he could completely take a car apart and put it back together perfectly, never leaving behind a single extra piece. Beyond his hard work and hobbies, he was a deeply thoughtful and kind-hearted soul who would truly help anyone in need.
Above all else, he was a devoted family man. He loved his wife fiercely and would do absolutely anything for her. He treasured his family deeply, and his grandchildren held an especially close and extra special place in his heart.
He was survived by his wife, Janice Bearden; his son, Jason Anthony Bearden; his grandchild, Natalie Bearden; his sisters, Iris Latham, Stormy Horsley, and Tammy Salians; his brother, Robert and David Horsley; his niece, Brandi Jackson; his brother in law Mark (Theresa) Smith; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Clifton Bearden and Margaret Jo Prophet; his brother James Lee Horsley; his sisters Cindy Smith, Vicki, Rachel, and Susan; and a grandchild Emma Bearden.
