Born on April 21, 1931, in Fayette County, Alabama, Raymond lived a life marked by faith, family, and service.
The son of Wiley and Ida Bevan, Raymond was instilled early on with the values of hard work and devotion, traits that would serve him throughout his lifetime. He attended Berry High School but, demonstrating a selfless nature from a young age, short stopped his education to care for his parents.
On November 24, 1951, Raymond married Loyce Lorene Kimbrell, beginning a partnership filled with love and shared purpose.
At the age of 21, Raymond answered the call to ministry, dedicating his life to preaching the Gospel. His unwavering faith led him to pastor churches across Virginia, Oklahoma, Alabama, and North Carolina where he left a lasting impact on all the communities he pastored.
In addition to his 40-year ministry, Bevan was a small business owner in Walker County. He founded B&B Mechanical alongside his sons, building an HVAC company that successfully reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
Raymond was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 72 years, Loyce Kimbrell Bevan;, as well as his sons, Gary Darrell Bevan and Ronald Douglas Bevan. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Olen Bevan, Elzo Bevan, Arlie Bevan, Calvin Bevan, Mary Kimbrell, Julia Kimbrell and Velman Bozeman.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Rae Bevan Fountain (Wyatt); and his 11 adoring grandchildren, who will forever cherish the memories of their gentle and caring grandfather.
An avid fishermen and green-thumb gardener — some of his signature tomato plants grew taller than he was — Bevan was known for his warm smile, quick wit, and giving nature. His life was a testament to love, humility, and dedication—qualities that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
A celebration of Raymond’s life and legacy will be held at Kilgore Green Funeral Home (1200 Birmingham Ave, Jasper, AL 35501) on January 11, 2025 from noon to 1 p.m. Internment services will follow immediately at Walker Memorial Gardens.
