Bentley awarded $52,250 to Lauderdale County, $106,875 to Lawrence County and $28,500 to the city of Madison for domestic violence units.

The units are made up of assistant district attorneys and victim advocates who build cases against suspected abusers and ensure that victims receive care and counseling they need. Unit staff members also educate the public about the dangers of domestic violence and train local law enforcement officers how to spot the signs of abuse.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation, water resource management, job training and career development.

Bentley notified District Attorney Chris Connolly of Lauderdale County, Madison Mayor Troy Trulock and Lawrence County Commission Chairman Prentis Davis that the grants had been approved.
