Storytime Atop the Mound at the Florence Mound & Museum

FLORENCE-We are excited to announce a new program series for fall of 2026 which will feature stories read atop the mound. Museum Educator Ana Peeples will read the stories from Indigenous authors aloud atop the mound. Students will have a chance to walk atop of the mound, listen to a story, and stay for an activity in the museum afterwards. The plan for the series, including the book and activity, can be found below:

For the first of this series, please join us Saturday, September 26 from 11:30am-12:30pm for an interactive reading of Día de Muertos Números: A Day of the Dead Counting Book, by Duncan Tonatiuh, and a cookie-decorating activity inside the museum afterward.

The series will continue October-December with other stories and activities. Stay tuned for the specific dates and other details.

October – When we Gather (Ostadahlosisha): A Cherokee Tribal Feast by Andrea L. Rogers, illustrated by Madelyn Goodnight and Nature Journaling Activity

November – Keepunumuk, Weeâchumun’s Thanksgiving Story by Danielle Greendeer, Anthony Perry, and Alexis Buten and Gratitude Quilt Making Activity

December – Being Home by Traci Sorell and Michaela Goade and Shapes in Place drawing activity

This event is free and recommended for children ages 5-8, but all ages are welcome.

The Florence Mound and Museum is located at 1028 S Court Street, Florence, AL 35630. Parking is located around the mound on the circular drive. Storytime will take place at the top of the mound and the activity will take place inside of the museum building in the conference room across from the front desk and permanent exhibit space.
