Nolaeve BarnesMs. Nolaeve Barnes or lovingly known to many as “Barnes” passed from this life on September 12, 2023 with her family by her side. She was born in Iuka, MS on December 25, 1932 to Owen and Inez Bugg. She grew up being an avid sports fan that led her to play basketball for Iuka High School. She then advanced on to play at Northeast Mississippi Junior College. She had many great memories playing ball at Northeast that she shared often with family and friends. After the tragic loss of her brother, Ms. Barnes left Northeast and moved back to Iuka where she met and fell in love with her husband of 38 years, Lum Barnes, Jr. It was at this time that she successfully opened her own daycare which she operated for over 30 years. She loved each child that she kept and would be described as helping “raise” many of them. Her love for kids eventually led her to working with elderly at the Tishomingo Manor Nursing home where she loved her patients, as well as her coworkers that become like family. In all her achievements with children and elderly, she enjoyed many different aspects of her life that included teaching Sunday School and singing in choir for many years at Iuka Baptist Church, fishing and being with her friends. She also had a great love of cheering for her beloved Mississippi State Bulldogs. She so enjoyed showing her spirited ways of rooting not just for the Bulldogs, but equally loved rooting against Alabama. Ms. Barnes had a caring and giving heart that resounded through all that knew her. This is especially true for the family that she leaves behind that includes two daughters, Pam Gray and Elizabeth Barnes of Texas; three granddaughters, Amanda Lambert (Sheldon), Shanda Lambert (Casey), and Mendy Clingan (Luke). She has 9 great-grandchildren, Macy McDuffy (Johnny), Nick Lambert (Victoria), Cloie Lambert, Sera Lambert, Molli Clingan, Caylee Clingan, Rayleigh Clingan, Sophie Lambert, and Sadie Lambert. She also leaves behind two great, great-grandchildren that were a joy for her, John Grae McDuffy and Mattie Banks McDuffy. She also has a special sister friend, Burnette Bryant. She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Inez Bugg; her husband, Lum Barnes, Jr., and brother, Jim Bugg. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements.
