Minnie Laura Wilson Carter – Obituary

minnieAfter a long and fruitful life, Mrs. Minnie Laura Wilson Carter, 86, died unexpectedly Sunday, May 8, 2016 at the Leeper Green House at United Methodist Senior Services where she had made her home the last 12 years. . She was born January 22, 1930 in the Pontocola Community of Lee County to John Lee Wilson and Ward McFarling Wilson. She married Elmer Lee Carter on January 16, 1961 and they lived in Verona many years. He died Dec. 22, 1983. Minnie worked as a sales lady for many years employed by Three Sisters and J.C. Penney’s. She was a member of Lee Acres Church of Christ. Minnie was everybody’s friend, loved to talk, encourage others, enjoyed beautiful flowers and music, needlepoint and visiting family, friends and fellow church members. She was a former Cub Scout den mother and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
A celebration service will be at 11 AM, Wednesday, May 11, 2016 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Minister Robert Kingsley and Minister Jerry Grammer officiating. Private burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5PM-8PM today and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Survivors include her son, Jimmy Carter of Nettleton ; two daughters, Patti Abernathy of Old Union and Beth Gregory of Muscle Shoals, AL; four grandchildren, Edgar Abernathy (Chrystal) of Olive Branch; twins-James Abernathy (Judah) of Shelbyville, TN; Joseph Abernathy (Ashley) of Nashville and Ashley M. Carter (James) of Smithville; seven great-grandchildren, Claudia, Ella Grace, Cohen, Carson, Reese, Carter and Cannon; her sister, Ada Jean Parker of Traceway Manor in Tupelo; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her six brothers: Edward, Carl, Lyndon, John (Snooks), Jerry and James Wilson and a daughter-in-law, Pam Carter.
Pallbearers will be Danny Tipton, Parker Tipton, Larry Guess, Eric Wilson, Mark Nanney, and Stevie George.
