Mildred had a passion for music and she became the youngest church pianists at the age of 10 and always sang in the church choir during her adult life. She loved to tell about picking 200 lbs. of cotton daily and attributed this to being so short. After George obtained his pilot’s license, she was determined to get her pilot’s license. Once she completed all of her pilot’s training, she refused to do her solo flight. And subsequently took on the role of being the flight navigator for George. Doug would brag about his Mom ability to plan all their flights precisely as she was quite the traveler. She enjoyed her family, boating, traveling, hosting tea parties, cooking, flower and vegetable gardens and riding her golf car around the farm and community.
Prior to George’s passing he ask his son and daughter in law (who Mildred called her angel) to make sure that his precious Mildred got the best of care available. As Doug often said he was blessed with a wonder father and mother and he would be honored to fulfill his father wishes. Mildred was a people person and was the happiest when she could socialize around people. When she decided that she no longer wanted private home care, Doug placed her in the highly rated number one facility at Branchwater Village Independent & Assisted Living and she instantly loved the management and made wonderful friends. She soon developed a wonderful friendship with Jan Strickland, and Helen Howard. Shortly thereafter she became known as one of the three Golden Girls they were quite entertaining.
