Michael Whitten, 62, of Florence, received the ultimate retirement gift on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, as he was welcomed into Heaven’s Gates.

The memorial service will be Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Parkway Methodist Church with Josh Miles officiating. A time of visitation for family and friends will follow at the church. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Whitten was a 1968 graduate of Coffee High School and a 1972 graduate of the University of North Alabama. During his career, he worked 20 years as an engineering draftsman and most recently was employed by Cook’s Pest Control.

He was a kind-hearted man with a gentle spirit who loved his Lord, his family, his church family, friends and his Emmaus brothers and sisters. He loved to spend time working in his yard and was a master of “piddling.”

Whitten, of Clarksville, Tenn.; parents, Edward and Faydean Whitten, of Florence; brother, Randle Whitten and wife, Wanda; sister, Dianna Hawk and husband, Ronnie; and sister, Connie Clark and husband, Danny: several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Melvin Ligon and wife, Ann.
