Maxine Cooke  Mullins

Maxine Cooke Mullins, a long-time resident of Starkville, passed away in her sleep at her daughter’s home in Brundidge, AL, Saturday morning, July 17, 2021, after a brief battle with lung cancer at the age of 88. She was born in Lambert, MS, on August 14, 1932, to William Bascus Cooke and Fannie Mae Gore Cooke.

Maxine graduated from Walnut High School in Lambert, MS, and went on to work for Bell South, where she met Moon Mullins. After marriage, they eventually moved to Starkville with their adopted son, Jackie. She worked for Deposit Guarantee Bank (then Security State Bank) and was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, all while raising a family. Later in life, she was instrumental in helping to raise her granddaughter, Tori.

She is survived by her daughter Tina Mullins and granddaughter Tori Mullins, son Bill Mullins, sisters Mavis Greene, Betty Barnes, Vivian Verno, and Linda Foster. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward “Moon” Mullins, son Jackie Hutchinson Mullins, sisters Eva Vowell and Olene Phillips, and brother Ray Cooke.

Graveside services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, at Memorial Garden Park Cemetery, located at 9036 Oktoc Road in Starkville, MS.
