MargieMargie Harland Sloan, 87, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015, at her residence after living with Alzheimer’s for over 15 years.

Visitation will be from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., Monday, December 14, 2015, at Elkins Funeral Home of Florence. The service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 15, at First United Methodist Church of Florence, with Sam Hardie, III, and Robert Sparkman officiating. The family will be available one hour before the service begins at the church. Burial will follow at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.

Margie worked at Robbins and for an accountant in Tuscaloosa in her younger years. Most of her adult life she was a homemaker who loved cooking three square meals a day for her family, visiting with friends, boating on our lakes, and Alabama football. She left a legacy of service to her family and friends. In her later years, she was known for winking at the people that she cared about. Through the years of living with Alzheimer’s her family always felt that they had rather have her at the stage she was at than not have her in their lives. Margie was a member of First United Methodist Church of Florence.

Her parents, Edgar and Mae Harland, and her sister, Nona Harland, preceded her in death.

Left to treasure her memory is her husband of 67 years, Stuart Sloan; daughter, Eileen Nunnelly (Bill); and grandson, Nathan Nunnelly. She is survived by three nieces and a nephew: Linda Gravlee, Vicki Iadevaia, Betty Oliver, and Terry Sloan.

Pallbearers will be Dane Dixon, Greg Fults, Tony Iadevaia,Nathan Nunnelly, Jerry Oliver, and Phil Oliver. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Frank Gravlee and Karl Potts.

The family wishes to express appreciation to Dr. Ricky Irons, Sally Bryant, Hospice Advantage, Cassandra Allen, Tasha Anderson, Hilda Comer, Lyrabeth Gilbert, Michelle Jackson, Bethany Osborn, Amber Roberts, and Mechelle Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to WICP (Alzheimer’s Adult Day Services) that Margie attended as one of their first “friends”. WICP c/o Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1520 Rickwood Road, Florence, Alabama 35630.
