Sheila Renee Atkins Cook, beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 65. Born on September 25, 1959, in Decatur, Alabama, to Marie Hill Atkins and Gordon Atkins, Sheila lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to those who mattered most to her.

At the age of 18, Sheila began her career at General Electric, where she devoted over 40 years of her life to her work. She retired at the age of 62, having earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues. After her retirement, Sheila made the heartfelt decision to move to El Paso, Texas, to be closer to her son, Jonathan Cook, and his wife, Lauren (King) Cook. There, she was able to enjoy the precious moments of her retirement surrounded by her greatest joy—her three grandchildren, Addison, Sophia, and Mason.

Sheila was the oldest of four siblings and was predeceased by her father, Gordon Atkins, and her brother, Scotty Atkins. She leaves behind her mother, Marie Atkins; sisters, Stephanie Holmes (Mike) and Karen Brock; and sister-in-law, Renae Atkins. Sheila is also survived by her son, Jonathan Cook, and daughter-in-law, Lauren Cook; her beloved grandchildren, Addison Walls, Sophia Cook, and Mason Cook; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who will remember her fondly and miss her dearly.

Sheila was a woman of deep faith and unwavering love for her family. Her warmth, kindness, and generosity touched everyone she encountered, and her legacy of devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Peck Funeral Home Chapel. on Tuesday March 4th, 2025 at 3:00 PM, with a visitation from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at Forest Chapel Cemetery.

A celebration of Sheila’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Sheila’s memory to a charity of your choice.

She will be dearly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who loved her.
