Margaret Ruth Young Willingham died peacefully at home on April 13, 2016 at the age of 89 years. Born Jan. 30, 1927, she was the beloved only child of Mary Tera Malone and Henry Clay Young. She married Edward Andrew Willingham of Dec. 28, 1946, and they celebrated 55 years of marriage before his death in 2002.
Margaret was a longtime active member of Flint Church of Christ. She stood as testament to what being a true servant of Christ means. She loved and was loved by anyone she ever met. She maintained her wonderful sense of humor to the very end and always made sure to tell her visitors she loved them before they left. She loved reading, cooking and became quite the accomplished painter in her retirement years.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Willingham Hall (James), Lanae Willingham Pride (Garner) and Faye Willingham Spivey (Gary); her grandson, Clayton Edward Hall; her granddaughter, Peyton Buckelew Jordan (Caleb); the light of her life, great-granddaughter, Evelyn “Evie” Ruth Jordan; stepgranddaughter, Angela Walker (Craig); stepgrandson, Todd Spivey (Amy) and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful caregivers with Alacare. They were professional yet compassionate during their time of caring for Margaret. She truly loved and appreciated all who cared for her and made her last days peaceful.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Flint Church of Christ beginning at 2 p.m. A Celebration of her life will follow at 3 p.m. officiated by Chris Pressnell and Chris Bowers. Burial will be in Pisgah Cemetery with Shelton Funeral Home directing. Family and friends will be pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial gift to Alacare Hospice & Home Health Fund of Alabama, 2400 John Hawkins Pkwy., Birmingham, AL 35244 or your favorite charity.
