Madge Lynelle Fleming, age 84, of Bear Creek, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and the many memories she created throughout a beautiful life.
Madge was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and treasured friend whose warmth, kindness, and servant’s heart touched everyone who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband, Jack Fleming; her son, Steve Fleming; her daughter, Cindy Copeland (David); her beloved grandsons, Hayden Copeland (Lakyn) and Alex Copeland (Neely); and her sisters, Gail Hagan and Suzanne Brackin. She was preceded in death by her father, Johnnie Hagan, and her mother, Lois Hagan.
Affectionately known as “Grangran,” Madge lived a life defined not by challenges, but by faith, perseverance, generosity, and joy. Diagnosed with Lupus at the young age of 32, she refused to let the disease define her life. Instead, she continued to pour herself into her family, church, and community with remarkable strength and determination.
A faithful member of No. 1 Baptist Church of Bear Creek and then First Baptist Church of Haleyville, Madge shared her beautiful voice in the choir and through heartfelt solos that blessed countless worship services over the years. She was always eager to serve others — volunteering at church and school functions, preparing thoughtful gifts of baked and canned goods for employees at Phillips High School and members of the Bear Creek community, and quietly making life brighter for those around her.
Madge also carried a deep love for adventure and travel. She proudly visited all 50 states and spent the last two decades delighting in cruises that carried her to Alaska, Canada, New England, and the Caribbean. Whether near or far, she treasured every journey and every memory made along the way.
Above all else, Grangran cherished her family. She devoted her life to supporting and encouraging her husband, children, and grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments and surrounding them with unconditional love. Her gentle spirit, caring heart, and unwavering devotion will remain a lasting legacy in their lives.
Madge was also a devoted animal lover. Her beloved dogs — Rocky and Jeanie, and then Yancey — brought her companionship, comfort, and happiness throughout the years, especially during the later seasons of her life. Although Madge was not physically able to attend Auburn sporting events, she was an avid Auburn fan who loved cheering on the Tigers from home.
Though her earthly journey has ended, the love, faith, music, laughter, and kindness Madge shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever lovingly remembered.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville, with funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel, with Nathan Carroll and Mark Hammitte officiating. Burial to follow in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Four Paws Dog Rescue Service of Winston County, First Baptist Church of Haleyville, Phillips High School of Bear Creek, or to the charity of your choice.
Rest in paradise, Grangran.
