Lloyd Frederick “Fred” Scarborough, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and proud American, passed away on May 12, 2026, at the age of 77, surrounded by loved ones in Huntsville, Alabama.

Fred was born on November 10, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Gladys Madsen Scarborough and Elum Lloyd Scarborough. He graduated from Normandy High School, earned his undergraduate degree from University of Alabama at Birmingham, and later received his Juris Doctor from Birmingham School of Law. He went on to build a life marked by service, leadership, and deep love for his family and community.

Much of Fred’s career was devoted to serving as in-house counsel within the defense industry, where he was respected for his integrity, wisdom, and steady leadership. Throughout his life, he also served in many roles including high school teacher, coach, Army pilot, mentor, and friend to many. Fred enjoyed Alabama football, afternoons by the pool, and, most of all, spending time with his girls and those he loved. In retirement, he found great joy in building lasting friendships and a strong community of men at The Cigar Room.

Fred grew up with strong family values and a deep sense of duty. As a veteran, he bravely served his country during the Vietnam War, carrying that same spirit of honor and perseverance throughout the rest of his life.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Madsen Scarborough and Elum Lloyd Scarborough, and his sister, Shirley Scarborough Brockgreitens.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Pylant Scarborough; his daughter, Caitlyn Scarborough Blankenship (Josh); his granddaughter, Elizabeth; his brother, John Scarborough (Alysa); his sister, Doris Koenig (David); along with extended family and countless friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Fred will be remembered for his steady presence, sharp wit, generous heart, and unwavering love for his family. He had a unique ability to make others feel welcomed, valued, and cared for, whether through a thoughtful conversation, a shared laugh, or simply showing up when it mattered most. His legacy of loyalty, strength, faith, and love will live on in the many lives he touched.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at The Church of the Highlands, 330 Nance Road, Madison, AL.
