Lewis Edward Sammet Lewis Edward Sammet, 92, of Athens, Alabama passed away peacefully at Limestone Nursing and Rehab Center on Monday, November 10, 2025.

Mr. Sammet was a resident of Athens, Alabama his entire life where he was a member of Wooley Springs Church of Christ. Lewis was a veteran of the Korean War, a Monsanto retiree, a retired bus driver, as well as an Elder of the Church at Wooley Springs. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking and visiting with his family. He was a loving father and grandfather that will be greatly missed.

Lewis is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Sammet and Sarah Jane Sammet, his wife, Mary Katherine Sammet, two sisters, Katherine Morell and Caroline Bryant, two brothers, Charlie Sammet, Jr. and William Sammet, as well as one grandchild, Cameron Rogers.

Lewis is survived by two daughters, Beni (Rickey) Yant and Cheryl (Sonny) Gilbert, six grandchildren: Pennie (Jeremy) Smith, PJ (Glen) Beddingfield, Levi (Brittany) Gilbert, Will (Carissa) Gilbert, Alicia (Colby) Webb, and Hayden Rose, nine great grandchildren, as well as 2 great great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held for Mr. Sammet at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM. A chapel service will follow visitation with service time beginning at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Germantown Cemetery. Speaker Levi Gilbert and Chaplain Reed Humphries will officiate the service.

Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home is assisting the family with services.
