Leonard Everett Higgins Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. He passed away peacefully at his home in Cullman, Alabama.
Len was a sweet man of God who loved Jesus with a passion and loved his family. He was always filled with joy and had a smile on his face. Everyone who knew him can still see that smile and hear him laugh. The day he was diagnosed with ALS, he could no longer speak much but told his wife ” count Joy”. Count it All JOY as we face various trials, because we are being perfected into the image of Christ. He never lost that joy! Now, he looks just like Jesus.
Len was co-founder of No Greater Love Ministries and has spent the last thirteen years serving and loving on those struggling with addiction and homelessness. He taught the freeing power of forgiveness by the life he lived, loving like Jesus.
Len was survived by his wife, Cynthia Lee Higgins; son, Joshua Adam Higgins; daughter, Jessica Nicole Higgins/Griffin; brothers, Patrick Anthony Higgins, Daniel Paul Higgins, Michael Joseph Higgins, and Jude Riccardo Martinez; and sisters, Kathleen Ann Bubala and Karen Marie Zuck.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jeremiah David Higgins; father, Leonard Everett Higgins; and mother, Anna Catherine Crum.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at Journey Church, 3683 Eva Road, Eva Alabama 35621 with a viewing from 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service. There will be a visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home on Saturday, March 19, 2022.
The family will be honoring Len by planning a day to go out and love on the homeless as he loved doing. They are asking that instead of flowers, please donate toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, Kleenex, Q-tips, combs, and body wash, or make a donation towards the Outreach. Anyone who would like to join us on the Outreach are welcome.
A special thank you to his children Josh Higgins and Jessica Higgins/Griffin, who left their jobs to stay at home to help their mom care for their dad. It was their love that allowed him to stay at home throughout this whole process, and we got to love him like Jesus. They have honored their father and mother well! Also, thank you to his nurse, Mckayla, and the nurses and team at Southern Care Hospice!
