Lee ‘Butch’ Edgar Buffaloe, 77, of Huntsville, passed away April 14, 2026. Butch was born on Sept. 11, 1948, to Mildred Euthie McCollum and Lipscol Conway Buffaloe, in Huntsville, Alabama. He was an only child. Butch attended Huntsville High and graduated in 1966. He graduated from Athens State with a degree in Business and then worked in finance for many years, with 13 years at UDS/Motorola in International Finance. After the facility closed, he decided to start his own lawn and landscape business. He enjoyed working outside and was well liked by his customers. He sometimes hired his nephews in need of a summer job who enjoyed working with their Uncle Butch.
Butch loved sports and spent many years coaching his own daughters in softball as well as many teen softball teams. There were even trips to the World Series. In 2000, he and his four partners opened a clinic to teach fast-pitch softball. It was very successful, and they coached for 10 years there.
He and his family had many fun experiences at their South Sauty lake house, where Butch enjoyed spending time with family and fishing. He also loved dogs. The family dachshunds liked to curl up next to him to watch TV.
Butch served in the Army Reserves and Coast Guard Reserves. He later was a member of the Elks and served on the Finance Committee. He looked forward to the Wednesday night get togethers with the pals he grew up with through high school.
Butch is survived by his wife, Ann; daughters, Cindy Raper and Lisa Baker (Bart); grandsons, Clay Meredith and Jackson Baker; brothers-in-law, Steve Coulter (Dauna) and Tim Coulter (Janel); sisters-in-law, Karen Hillis and Rosemary Cregar (Terry); and many special nieces and nephews.
Butch never met a stranger. He had grit and determination to the end. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
There will be a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Maple Hill Cemetery. Following the graveside service, there will be a Celebration of Life at The Elk’s Lodge.
