  Lawrence Welton Woods Profile PhotoLawrence Welton Woods, of Blountsville, Alabama, passed away on October 24, 2024, at the age of 85. Mr. Woods was born, as a twin, on November 7, 1938, in the small community of Liberty, in Blount County, Alabama, to the late Richard Augustus and Sophia Gertrude Vanzant Woods.

Mr. Woods served his nation honorable in the United States Army before working as a machinist for many years. Mr. Woods was a hard-working man who enjoyed woodworking and grafting trees in his spare time. He was an amateur radio operator, and he had a great knowledge of God’s word and was able to quote it from memory.

Welton and his twin, Elton, shared a very special bond. Mr. Woods enjoyed being a twin and the two were rarely separated. Welton loved his wife of fifty-four years, Janice, dearly and his daughters were a source of joy for him as well. His little dog, Sophie Jean, also held a special place in his heart.

Mr. Woods is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Stephanie Lemaster-Bonner; sisters, Dorothy Yarbrough (Leamon), Martha Smith (Junice); and brother-in-law, Rodney Bradford.

Those surviving Mr. Woods includes his wife, Mary Janice Hutchens Woods; daughter, Angela Woods; grandson, Bryant Lemaster; brothers Ervin Woods (Dorothy), Elton Woods (Glenda); sisters, Shirley Bradford, Barbara Gilliland (Roger); and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation on Sunday afternoon, October 27, 2024, from 12 noon until services begin at 2:00 p.m. All services will be held in the Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel with Tyler Cantrell officiating. Following services, Mr. Woods will be laid to rest in Rock Springs Cemetery where his nephews will serve as pallbearers.
