Laverne Byrd Mitchell, age 90, of Tuscumbia died January 17, 2014. Her funeral service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Sunnyside Church of God with Bro. Richard McDonald officiating. Burial will be at Community Cemetery.
Mrs. Mitchell was a native of Colbert County and a member of Sunnyside Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Lee Mitchell; parents, Jodie Elizabeth Goins and Lee C. Byrd; brothers, Mike, Bill and Emmett Byrd; sisters, Myrtle Garner, Merrill Miller, Alice Byrd and Gladys Byrd; grandchildren, Thomas Lee Mitchell and Darren Matthew Driggers.
She is survived by son, Howard Lee Mitchell and wife Glenda; daughters, Donna Keeton and husband Dewayne, and Delilah Howard and husband Earl; grandchildren, Emmett Mitchell and wife Shari, Monica Mitchell Black and husband Craig, Travis Howard and wife Chastity, Mitchell Howard; granddaughter-in-law, Tammy Driggers; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Travis Howard, Mitchell Howard, Nicholas Howard, Craig Black, Emmett Mitchell, and John Elom.
Family offers a special thanks to Dr. Ronald McCoy and staff, the nurses in PCU of Helen Keller Hospital, Pauline Ayers, John Elom, John Garner and members of her church.
