Harold Whitten Warren – Obituary

WarrenHarold Whitten Warren passed away January 17, 2014, age 93, was born May 16, 1920 in Alexander City, AL. His visitation will be Monday from 12 – 2 p.m. with funeral services at 2 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, in Tuscumbia, with Bob Plunket officiating.

He served 26 ½ years of military duty both in active and reserves. Active duty came after advanced ROTC at Auburn University during WWII and attending Officer Training School. He came out of OTS as a lieutenant and transferred to the air force for pilot training to satisfy a childhood desire to fly. After the war he retired in 1945 with a Lieutenant Colonel rank. His career as a farm agent began in Colbert County where he remained for two years then to Lauderdale County Extension Service where he remained until coming to Russellville in 1953. Meanwhile he began flying in 1947 with a reserve unit. The Unit was Kept combat ready and was ready in 1951 for a recall for the Korean War. Warren and the unit were recalled again during the Cuban Crisis for a year until the crisis eased and the unit was released after a month. Warren had a command pilot rating which is based on actual phases of thousands of hours of military flying time.

In later years he would go on to be Chairman of the Airport Authority Board o f Russellville, which helped the city acquire the airport. He is also a past President of the Russellville Rotary Board.

He was preceded in death by his son Keith Warren.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years , Ruth Whitlock Warren, and daughter, Mary Ann Warren Inman; grandchildren, Caroline, Sarah, Archie, and Grace Inman.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Sherrod, John Sherrod, Glenn Sherrod, Ralph Foster, James Sherrod and Archie Inman.
