  Larry Joe PowersLarry Joe Powers, 79 of Athens, passed away on Wednesday, January 31st, 2024, at his residence. Mr. Powers was born on April 7, 1944, in Athens, to William Sidney Powers and Edith Mae West Powers.

Mr. Powers is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Robbie Carr Powers; daughter Melissa Powers Self (Franklin); granddaughter Ciera Carter (Josh); great-grandchildren Reese Carter, Marley Carter, Maverick Carter, and Raven Carter; nieces Tammy Graham (Jay) and Cheyanne Adams (Dylan); and nephew Bayle Owens (Kayla).

He is preceded in death by his parents; son Larry Joe Powers, Jr.; and brothers Ray Powers, Mack Powers, Lanny Powers, and Jan Powers.

A graveside service for Mr. Powers will be Sunday, February 4th, 2024, at 2:00pm at Pleasant Point Cemetery, with Jay Graham officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 12:00-1:30pm at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Franklin Self, Josh Carter, Paul King, Maverick Carter, Brad Johnson, Dylan Adams, and Daniel Gordon.

Mr. Powers was a special man loved by many. Along with his father and brother Ray, he was the owner of Powers Produce on Jefferson Street. Later he delivered fresh produce and enjoyed talking to people on his produce stops. He went to Birmingham two times a week for produce. He also loved music, especially country music and Blues, and enjoyed just sitting in his chair listening to his music. Mr. Powers loved his stray cats and loved to feed them. He also loved chickens and loved to raise roosters for fighting. He enjoyed hunting, visiting with friends, and was an avid Alabama football fan. He will be dearly missed by all who know him.
