FLORENCE-Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts is proud to exhibit a newly acquired body of work donated by local artist and educator, Al Hausmann. This grouping of etchings, woodblock prints, paintings, and sculptures were indicative of the works he produced as an working artist in the Shoals area. The newly acquired artwork will be on display from August 20 through September 21 with an opening reception and gallery talk August 20 from 2pm – 4pm.
Hausmann’s artistic contributions to the Shoals include the life-size bronze sculpture of W.C. Handy in Wilson Park and the famous graphic for the first W.C. Handy Festival (1982), the hand-carved walnut doors to the Temple B’nai Israel, and bronze busts at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. His influence is unparalleled as an art educator at the University of Mississippi and the University of North Alabama. Hausmann worked as an art consultant in Alabama public schools and several non-profit organizations.
